How To

How can you create a Quality Management Plan, (QMP)?

QMP (Quality Management Plan), introduced in ISO 9001,2008, provides a systematic method for improving processes, products, or services through continuous improvement. It focuses on the ability to measure, analyze and control processes and customer satisfaction.

QMP is a method that ensures good business performance. QMP is a standard method that improves the production process, service delivery, customer relationship, and overall business performance. A QMP should include all three aspects - Processes, Products, and Services. The QMP that only addresses one aspect of the process is called a Process QMP. QMPs that focus on a Product/Service are known as "Product" QMPs. And when the QMP concentrates on Customer Relationships, it is called "Customer" QMP.

Scope is the most important element in implementing a QMP. Strategy is the second. These are the following:

Scope: This is the scope of the QMP and its duration. For example, if you want to implement a QMP that lasts six months, then this scope will outline the activities done during the first six.

Strategy: This describes the steps taken towards achieving the goals set forth in the scope.

A typical QMP has five phases: Planning (Design, Development), Implementation (Implementation), and Maintenance. The following describes each phase.

Planning: In this stage the QMP's objectives and priorities are established. In order to fully understand and meet the needs of all stakeholders involved in this project, they are consulted. Once the objectives and priorities have been identified, it is time to plan the strategy to achieve them.

Design: This stage is where the design team creates the vision, mission and strategies necessary for successful implementation of QMP. These strategies are put into action by developing detailed plans and procedures.

Development: Here, the development team works towards building the necessary capabilities and resources to support the implementation of the QMP successfully.

Implementation: This refers to the actual implementation or the use of the strategies planned.

Maintenance: It is an ongoing process that maintains the QMP over time.

Several additional items should be added to the QMP.

Stakeholder involvement is important for the QMP's success. They must be involved in all phases of the QMP's development, planning, execution, maintenance, and design.

Project Initiation: It is essential to have a clear understanding about the problem and the solution before you can initiate a project. The initiator must know the reason they are doing something and the expected outcome.

Time Frame: This is a critical aspect of the QMP. For a short time, you can start with the simple version of the QMP. If you're looking to implement the QMP over a longer period of time, you may need more detailed versions.

Cost Estimation: Another important component of the QMP is cost estimation. Planning is not possible without knowing the amount of money you will spend. It is therefore important to calculate the cost before you start the QMP.

QMPs are not just a written document. They should be a living document. It can change as the company grows or changes. It should be reviewed regularly to ensure that it meets current needs.
